How I Green

It’s important to me that I do what I can to help the environment. Here are the steps I take to lesson my carbon footprint on a daily basis.

Work from home -  This saves on gas and  pollution to the environment when I’m not setting in traffic. I also do most of my networking online instead of running to meeting after meeting.

Computer – I hibernate my computer when I’m not using it or need to step away from my desk. This saves on the electricity that I use.

Printing – I only print when absolutely necessary. I use recycled printing paper and I recycle anything that I can. I also use recycled ink cartridges. This not only helps the environment, but also saves me money.

Bookkeeping – I use electronic invoicing and bookkeeping. I use PayPal to send and receive payments. This one step helps the environment in so many ways, when you stop to think all of the resources that go into mailing one invoice.

Books – If you know one thing about me – it is I love books!! Last year I started purchasing used books whenever possible. This saves so much money and many trees.

You can find used books on Amazon or visit your local Half Price Books to avoid the shipping cost and environmental resources used in shipping.

Better yet, get an e-reader. My hubby gave the Color Nook for Christmas and I absolutely love it!

Light bulbs – I use Energy Star rates compact fluorescent light bulbs to reduce energy usage.

Communication – I use email, instant messaging, video chats, or the phone to whenever possible, instead of getting in the car driving for an in-person meeting. This also saves so much time when I’m not running here and there.

Errands - I schedule all errands according to the part of town I’ll be in. This is so much more efficient, saves gas, and time.

Education – I take 95% of all classes and workshops online. Not only does this help the environment, but it also saves on stress since I do not have to run off to class.
